Science and Technology for Development Program

The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) bring to the forefront the importance of human development in the context of sustainable economic and social development.  The goals aim for specific levels of achievement on a number of development indicators, such as halving the proportion of people living in extreme poverty or suffering from hunger between 1990 and 2015, ensuring that all children are in school and reducing infant mortality and improving maternal health.

These goals also bring to light the role of science and technology in achieving them.  Particularly in the realm of gender equity, women’s empowerment, eradicating diseases, sustainable livelihoods, educational curricula, health and hygiene.

Within this realm, IYPN will be working towards creating awareness campaigns, about different diseases with youth and young professionals community. IYPN will also take on distributing drugs related to HIV/AIDS and TB in cooperation with American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), International Aids Vaccine Initiative (IAVI). It will take on projects related to water and sanitation with “Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council”.  IYPN will work with University Grant Commission to reach out to the youth and young professionals through colleges and universities in both rural villages and urban cities.

IYPN proposes to work with Association of American Physicians of Indian Origin to distribute TB drugs and HIV/AIDS vaccines within marginalized communities in India through AAPI clinics. It will also take on providing proper scientific information regarding different diseases that are curable and preventable, in native languages.  It will create science curriculum that is aligned towards integrating development aspect.

IYPN proposes to work with Hunger Project in the area of use of science and technology in agriculture sector. (develop the content)

IYPN proposes to work on creating ITC for YPs portal to develop the interface between universities and non-governmental organizations that are providing services to capture the data at the source of transformation.
